HHU – The Entrepreneurs’ University
In July 2011, Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf was one of ten universities to receive an award in the nationwide EXIST IV competition “The Entrepreneurs’ University”.
In the framework of its prize-winning strategy concept, the Center for Entrepreneurship Düsseldorf (CEDUS) is the HHU’s immediate point of contact for researchers, graduates and students interested in setting up a business.
Next to excellent research and teaching, with CEDUS the HHU is creating an environment which makes it possible for students, graduates and researchers to transform their ideas and dreams into the enterprises of tomorrow.
A new Chair for Entrepreneurship, with a focus on entrepreneurial finance, is developing the as yet non-existent area of entrepreneurship research and forms the nucleus for the establishment of a culture of entrepreneurship at the HHU.
The Düsseldorfer Innovations- und Wissenschaftsagentur (DIWA GmbH), as the joint transfer agency of the HHU and Düsseldorf, capital city of North Rhine-Westphalia, provides the entrepreneurship service. By means of technology and start-up scouting, DIWA GmbH identifies unused innovation potential in all the faculties and develops it in the framework of its entrepreneurship support activities. DIWA GmbH also runs CEDUS’ day-to-day operations and coordinates the implementation of the HHU’s strategy concept.
Through the TTHU Technologietransfer Heinrich Heine Universität GmbH, a 100 % subsidiary of the HHU, participations in its own spin-offs will be realized to an increased degree in future. In the economic utilization of research results, the HHU is focusing, with a new patent and commercialization strategy, on commercialization through spin-offs.
In order to bridge financing gaps, a new pre-seed entrepreneurship fund is being set up as an internal university support measure. In addition, rooms and infrastructure in connection with individual supervision are being made available both at the HHU as well as in the Technology and Start-up Centre (Life Science Center) close to the campus.
Further development of a living culture of entrepreneurship is being complemented by extensive awareness-raising measures and a multi-stage entrepreneurship teaching programme with basic principles, consolidation and implementation phases. An expert committee, comprising researchers and business people with expertise in the field of entrepreneurship, is steering the development of the entrepreneurship profile and the continuation of the HHU’s strategy concept.
